To celebrate my new abundance of peripherals I present to you this theme song to the videogame the 7th Guest. This is the first song that popped into my head the moment I plugged in my dusty old MIDI keyboard. The game, which was essentially a spooky old haunted house containing lots of mysterious puzzles, featured a puzzle that required you to teach yourself to play the game’s theme song on a virtual piano. Which, combined the games repetitive score, is probably why I still have this music drilled into my head today.
Now that I think about it, making the player walk up to an in-game photo realistic piano and asking them to perform the games theme music is a bit odd. It acknowledges the fact that you’re playing a video game. Or it’s expecting you to believe that a full orchestra has been playing in some other room from the moment you walked into the front door of this spooky old house.
Isn’t it kind of like a character in Grand Theft Auto getting into a car and seeing the steering wheel replaced by a Xbox controller?
Ah, whatever.
7th Guest was one of the coolest games I’ve ever played.
